This week we explore … silence...through a feature length experimental audio piece.   Audio Club If you haven’t already seen our socials, All The Best has started an audio club. Each month we're sharing a new prompt and this time it's the ‘sound of silence'. First up we hear an Audio Club story from Ramon Briant about the beautiful things we can discover when we pay attention to the spaces in-between sounds. You can learn more and get involved with Audio Club here.   Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Drive Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Drive ventures into the abstract where memory becomes a shattered mirror of intangible realities. A deconstruction and reconstruction, the audio weaves together disparate threads of voices and experiences into a tapestry of disjointed narratives. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Drive was created as a fourth year media project at the University of Sydney.  It was recorded and produced by Jenae Madden in 2023. Grandmotherland

Grandmotherland

2024-02-1329:22

This week, we’re bringing you a piece that explores Chilean diasporic constellations between grandmother, mother and grandchild.  ‘Grandmotherland’ follows Jasmine’s journey to her grandmother's homeland and her exploration of ‘diasporic dysphoria’ or an indefinable sense of dislocation from cultural heritage. Grandmotherland ‘Grandmotherland’ is an exploration into music and it’s influence on memory and cultural belonging. For Jasmine, Chile is her maternal homeland—the country where her mum and her mum’s family were born—though it has always felt impossible to claim. Since immigrating to Australia, her family’s memory of Chile is Jasmine’s closest connection to her culture.  A 30-year-old tape of her grandma singing with friends reignites Jasmine’s curiosity, and she and her mum, Gilda, travel to Chile for the first time in September 2023. Through their travels, they encounter people, places and music that bonds them closer to Chile and the memory of their family. There’s no one universal story of COVID times. As much as it was a global pandemic, it was also a local story. For the town of Bega, the impacts of Covid on a local scale were intertwined with the devastation of bushfires. This story comes from an episode of ‘Hope Loss Resilience’ a podcast series produced by local audiomaker Craig Garrett as part of the Bega Valley Shire Library’s Talking Together oral histories project. Listen to further episodes: Hope Loss Resilience Podcast Craig's collaborated with organisations including the Migration Museum and Speaking Volumes (UK); the CBAA (Community Broadcasting Association of Australia); the Digital Writers’ Festival (Melb); Ranu Welum (Indonesia); the QLD Poetry Festival, Vulcana Women’s Circus and House Conspiracy (Bris); and Noted Festival (Canberra). This week, connecting to the natural world through birds. This episode explores ideas of how we can be more mindful of our surroundings, that there is beauty in the Natural world everywhere you look. Amelia, a self-confessed “bird nerd”, has never seen any type of owl in the wild but maybe that is all about to change. Produced by Amelia Mertha Supervising Producer Maddy Macquine Featuring interviews with Graeme Robinson, Stephanie Chambers, Louise Turnbull, Areebah Mirza and Steve.

Produced by Nadia Mehdi.   Amongst the Sheep What does it mean to be autistic? Our second story explores this question. Kieren was diagnosed as an adult, and is finding it a difficult question to answer. In this feature Kieren sits down with family and friends to try to make sense of his past, and discover what it means to be autistic in an unforgiving, neurotypical world.
