    Execution of Charles I

    Execution of Charles I

In 1649, Charles I had his head chopped off for treason. It's a unique, divisive moment in English history. Was Charles a tyrant or a martyr? Was his trial justice or a kangaroo court? Did he deserve to die?
Our guest to help tell this truly incredible piece of history is Ronald Hutton - one of Britain's foremost historians who is working on a three volume biography of Oliver Cromwell.
Ronald will be returning next week to help us tell the other half of this story — the Revenge meted out on those responsible after the Restoration of the monarchy eleven years later.

This went on for decades with more than a thousand perishing. Who invented this gruesome story? Why? And why has Sawney Bean become a kind of cult hero in Scotland itself?

Meh.

After listening to the extremely well-researched and entertaining “Wild Thing Podcast” with Laura Krantz I was interested to see another podcast cover the mystery and history of Bigfoot but this was so disappointing. Basically the narrators are saying they can respect the cultural relevance of iterations of Bigfoot (I.e. yeti, etc) for cultures that AREN’T America because there are ancient carvings of them in their artifacts (even though several people from these countries straight out say- yeah, yeti is good for tourism)- but that Bigfoot in America is a joke. Hi! Remember that there were people who lived in North America BEFORE Europeans arrived?? Do you know that most Native American cultures include tribal beliefs and stories (and carvings!) of Bigfoot/Sasquatch that have been around as long as people have lived here? To totally dismiss the notion of Bigfoot in North America because you don’t like Americans is not scientific or journalistic. It felt like zero research went into this “three part” topic.
