E63 - Spotify Has Cancelled Our Show - Yes, it is true! Podcasting has evolved quite a bit since its early days. As a format, it is increasingly becoming more visual and interactive, with more people around the world creating, listening, and engaging with the medium than ever before. ‍ And while the core vision of Spotify for Podcasters has remained — to make podcasting so brilliantly simple that anyone, anywhere, can share their voice with the world — like podcasting itself, we’ve expanded our purpose over time. Today we are focused on helping you reach larger, more global audiences and giving you the tools to develop meaningful, authentic connections with those fans. To that end, we have a couple of important updates to share as they relate to some of our features on Spotify for Podcasters. Alongside the rollout of this integration and to better optimize the needs of creators today, we are refocusing our attention — and resources — from some of our legacy tooling to the next generation of podcast innovations. As part of that shift, we are discontinuing our web and mobile native creation tools, including recording and editing tools as well as our “Music + Talk” format (an experimental feature that allowed podcasters to include full licensed music tracks in their podcast episodes on Spotify), beginning this June. https://podcasters.spotify.com/resources/learn/create/updates-to-spotify-for-podcasters
EXTERNAL EPISODE 62 - A Thousand Horses - We fill the Room with Smoke and a Room Full of Strangers A Thousand Horses was founded in 2010 in Nashville by longtime friends, vocalist Michael Hobby and lead guitarist Bill Satcher (both natives of Newberry, South Carolina), along with rhythm guitarist Zach Brown and bassist Graham DeLoach. This ballad is their debut release. The high-powered new single from A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” marks the start of the most dynamic era yet in the Nashville-based band’s career. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Jon Randall, the wildly life-affirming anthem delves deeper into the freewheeling originality they’ve embraced since their Dave Cobb-produced debut SOUTHERNALITY—featuring the PLATINUM-certified smash “Smoke”—and artfully merges elements of Southern Rock, Classic Country, and hard-driving Americana. Along with adorning the track with plenty of ear-catching details (achieved in part through such left-of-center instrumentation as electric sitar and talkbox), A Thousand Horses fully capture what frontman Michael Hobby refers to as “the freedom of cutting ties with the negativity of the past, and putting your energy into celebrating a new beginning.”   Written after a period of intense change in their personal lives, “Highway Sound” first took shape over the course of a weekend trip to a Texas farmhouse in summer 2021, during which Hobby, guitarist Bill Satcher, bassist Graham DeLoach, and former guitarist Zach Brown came up with the song during an impromptu session on the porch. A major leap forward for A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” spotlights the powerful musicianship and soulful urgency first revealed on SOUTHERNALITY—a 2015 LP that reached #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, with “Smoke” earning recognition as the first debut single for a group to reach #1 on the Country Airplay charts that decade. Soon after launching their own label, Highway Sound Records, A Thousand Horses returned with their 2022 sophomore album BROKEN HEARTLAND, featuring standouts like “When I Hear Your Name,” “Another Mile,” and “Never Liked the Rain.” Known for their incendiary live show, A Thousand Horses have also toured the country with iconic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and more.  Songs featured in this episode: Smoke https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDWepmUXk3w Room Full of Strangers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrQELduz_Lw YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkRTIm4k5MISqXx9NFF22lQ https://www.athousandhorses.com/ ___ https://truemediasolutions.ca/add-to-my-playlist

EPISODE 59 - Michael Sweet - Solo Tunes From Stryper's Lead Singer - Radio and Tomorrow plus Baby Doll External Version for listeners outside of Spotify SINGER/SONGWRITER/GUITARIST AND FOUNDING MEMBER OF STRYPER EMBODIES ROLE AS HARDEST WORKING MUSICIAN IN THE BUSINESS On any given day, veteran musical artist Michael Sweet can be found practicing guitar riffs, laying down vocals, writing a song or giving an interview on a podcast. And that’s just to name a few of his diverse and demanding priorities. “I’m fortunate to have so many opportunities with all sorts of projects on the table,” says the multifaceted singer/songwriter/guitarist from his Massachusetts home. “Sometimes I get overwhelmed, but as an overachiever I tend to work really well under pressure.” It would be extremely tough to find a more hardworking and accomplished musician in the business than Sweet. Need evidence? For starters, he continues to helm Grammy-nominated Christian hard-rock outfit Stryper, which he co-founded more than 35 years ago. With more than 10 million career album sales worldwide, the venerable band ascended to prominence in the 1980s with Billboard Top 40-charting singles like “Calling on You,” “Honestly” and “Always There for You.” Stryper’s 1986 multi-platinum release To Hell with the Devil has been lauded by critics and fans alike as among the best Christian rock albums of all time. The group also made history when it scored two songs simultaneously in MTV’s Top 10 with enduringly popular videos “Honestly” and “Free.” Along the way, Sweet also managed to churn out first-rate solo albums like his self-titled release in 1994, which yielded five No. 1 singles, Truth in 2000, the critically acclaimed 2015 project I’m Not Your Suicide (peaked at No. 10 in Billboard’s Hard Rock albums), and 2019’s Ten, which reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. Sweet is no stranger to witnessing success all while maintaining positive spiritual themes in his prodigious catalog of work. What’s more, he consistently takes on significant side projects like a provisional stint as co-lead singer and guitarist for legendary rock band BOSTON. Never mind cooperative endeavor Sweet & Lynch with guitarist George Lynch, best known as a former original member of metal quartet Dokken, and a metal project called Sunbomb with Tracii Guns of L.A. EX57 - Bryan Adams - A Great Canadian Musical Export - Cuts Like a Knife and Everything I Do, I Do it For You Bryan Adams, in full Bryan Guy Adams, (born November 5, 1959, Kingston, Ontario, Canada), Canadian rock singer-songwriter, photographer, and social activist whose hit albums Cuts Like a Knife (1983) and Reckless (1984) made him one of the most popular and successful recording artists of the 1980s. Adams was musically talented at an early age and taught himself how to play guitar. His father served in the Canadian army, was a UN peacekeeping observer, and served as a diplomat, necessitating many relocations for the family. When his parents divorced, he lived with his mother just north of Vancouver, British Columbia. At age 16, he dropped out of high school, ready to pursue a full-time career as a musician, having already performed as lead vocalist for Canadian glam-rock band Sweeney Todd. He spent time working in a recording studio, performing on tours, and recording music for Sweeney Todd’s album If Wishes Were Horses (1977). Shortly after the recording’s release, Adams was introduced to Jim Vallance, a Canadian musician, songwriter, and producer. Vallance recognized Adams’s ability but also saw the need for further vocal training. With Vallance’s help, it was not long before Adams established a powerful, distinct sound, one compared to that of Rod Stewart, Paul Rodgers, and Steve Marriott. EX56 - Chickenfoot Alright, Alright and Up Next - The Super Group That We Want More From Chickenfoot is an American hard rock supergroup formed in 2008. The group consists of vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen and -Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (also ex-Van Halen), guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Due to Smith's consistent recording and touring commitments with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kenny Aronoff joined the group in 2011 as a touring replacement drummer. While the band has not formally announced a breakup, in June 2016 Smith said that he had doubts about its survival due to their busy schedules. The group has released two studio albums, one live album, and one box set. Bassist Michael Anthony asserts that the name originated from initial jam sessions between Hagar, Smith, and himself: "there are three talons on a chicken's foot and there are three of us."[1] Anthony later stated: "it was just supposed to be a bullshit name that we'd used for a while, and then [when] the rumors spread about the band, everybody used that name so we thought, let's call it Chickenfoot'—it all comes down to the music anyway." Chickenfoot's second studio album, Chickenfoot III, was released on September 27, 2011. EX55 - Inhaler Will Take Your Breath Away with It Won't Always Be Like This and My Honest Face Led by Elijah Hewson, Dublin's Inhaler play driving, soaring indie rock filled with chiming guitars, synths, and Hewson's emotive, wide-ranging vocals. On singles such as their 2018 debut, "I Want You," and 2020's "Falling In," the band crafted a lush, post-punk-inspired sound that they built on with 2021's chart-topping full-length It Won't Always Be Like This and 2023's sophomore album Cuts & Bruises. The founding members of Inhaler began playing together as preteens in late 2012 and bonded over their shared love of the Stone Roses, Joy Division, the Cure, and Interpol. With Hewson -- the eldest son of U2's Bono -- on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Josh Jenkinson on lead guitar, Robert Keating on bass, and Ryan McMahon on drums, the original quartet finished secondary school before self-releasing their first studio single, "It Won't Always Be Like This," in March 2019. Two months later, the group released "My Honest Face," which they promoted with a tour supporting Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Following that September's "Ice Cream Sundae," Inhaler placed in the Top Five of BBC's Sound of 2020 poll. The band returned in January 2020 with "We Have to Move On" and May's "Falling In." While those two tracks were stand-alone singles, the subsequently released "When It Breaks" and "Cheer Up Baby" ultimately appeared on It Won't Always Be Like This, their 2021 debut album. The LP topped the charts in both the U.K. and Ireland. The middle of 2022 saw the release of "These Are the Days," the first single from their forthcoming sophomore effort. Working with producer Antony Genn (Goo Goo Dolls, Joe Strummer), the resulting album, Cuts & Bruises, was issued in early 2023, with the tracks "Love Will Get You There" and "If You’re Gonna Break My Heart" preceding it. E54 - Tyler Hubbard is Dancing in the Country with his 5 Foot 9 Wife and Family as a Solo Artist As the Georgia half of Florida Georgia Line, Tyler Hubbard spearheaded the shiny, good-time sound of bro-country in the 2010s, singing such era-defining hits as "Cruise," "Get Your Shine On," and "This Is How We Roll." Once he split with Brian Kelley in the early 2020s, Hubbard continued the legacy of FGL as a solo artist, modernizing their signature sunny sound on the 2022 number one hit "5 Foot 9," which was the first single pulled from his inaugural EP Dancin' in the Country. His eponymous full-length debut arrived the following year. A native of Monroe, Georgia, Hubbard attended college at Belmont University in Nashville, where he met Florida-born singer/songwriter Brian Kelley in a campus worship group. The pair eventually parlayed their friendship into a successful music career under the banner Florida Georgia Line. Emerging in 2010, the duo found mainstream success two years later with the release of their debut single, "Cruise," which became the first country song ever to receive diamond certification from the RIAA. The wide-ranging Grammy Award winners spent the rest of the decade at the forefront of the country-pop scene, releasing gold- and platinum-selling efforts like Here's to the Good Times, Anything Goes, and Dig Your Roots. In 2021, Hubbard and Kelley announced that they would be embarking on dual solo careers while remaining part of Florida Georgia Line. Hubbard's collaborations with Tim McGraw ("Undivided") and rapper Lathan Warlick ("My Way") appeared later that year. In early 2022, he signed with EMI Nashville and began work on his debut album, which embraced both his country and Christian roots, and saw him working with a host of regional hitmakers, including Ross Copperman, Keith Urban, and Thomas Rhett. "5 Foot 9," the first single from the sessions, appeared later that June, eventually climbing to number four on Billboard's Country Airplay charts. Hubbard followed the hit with Dancin' in the Country, his debut solo EP, in August. The set provided the seeds of Tyler Hubbard, the eponymous full-length debut that appeared in January 2023 and reached the upper echelons of the Billboard Country charts. EX52 - Amanda Marshall - It takes years to learn how to play like yourself - Fall From Grace and I Built This House Amanda Marshall steps back into the spotlight with new album It's been more than two decades since Canadian singer Amanda Marshall released new music, but the wait is finally over for her fans. Marshall is perhaps best known for her 1995 self-titled debut album, which featured hits like “Dark Horse” and “Let it Rain.” It is one of only 24 Canadian albums to achieve diamond certification in the county. Marshall followed it up with two more multi-platinum albums before disappearing from the music scene. Now, 20 years later, Marshall is back. She’s re-emerging with her first album since 2001 and a nationwide tour to go with it. “I said to someone the other day, ‘it’s sort of like slipping back into a warm bath, but you’re shocked the water’s still warm’ ... so that’s kinda what it’s been like,” she told CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. Marshall says her hiatus from music began in 2002 after she fired her manager. “It triggered a landslide of legal issues that went on and on and on,” she says. “I was sort of at lose ends; there was considerable questions as to whether or not I was going to come back and make music publicly. I was always writing and recording and I knew that I had this record in my back pocket.” Marshall says words of encouragement helped her get back into the music game. “I had one friend in particular who said to me, ‘you’re too young to retire and you’re too good not to try, don’t waste your gift,’ and that really stuck with me.” Marshall’s brand new album “Heavy Lifting” will be released on June 9. Earlier this year, fans got a taste with the album’s first single -- “I Hope She Cheats.” “It’s just been shocking to me, the level of enthusiasm with which it has been received,” says Marshall. “It’s truly been just amazing.” Marshall will soon hit the road on her “25 & Counting: The Heavy Lifting tour” in support of the new album and in celebration of her past releases. She says she’s excited to see the country again, especially the East Coast. Marshall lived in Halifax for three years between the ages of 10 and 13. “I have a trove of memories of living in Nova Scotia, those were really, sort of, my early tween-formative years,” Marhsall says. “I remember everything from first school dance, my first boyfriend, my first kiss -- my first everything.” Marshall’s tour kicks off at Casino New Brunswick in Moncton, N.B., on June 11 and ends Aug. 5 at The Jubilee music festival in New Glasgow, N.S. She says she is looking forward to reconnecting with old fans and making new ones. “That’s what every recording artist that I know aspires to -- to look around the room and see generations of people singing these songs back to you. It’s amazing,” she says. “And the new stuff has gotten such a warm reception so far that I’m so happy that the people around me talked me into putting it out and coming back and giving it an opportunity to be heard.”  Songs Featured: Amanda Marshall - Fall From Grace Amanda Marshall - I Built This House https://www.amandamarshall.com/ ___ Add To My Playlist Website

EX50 - Governor Tom - From Acting to Music - An Honest Mix of Indy, Folk, Jazz and Blues GOVERNOR TOM - a singer-songwriter whose dynamic indie-folk, genre-bending style weaves truthiness and wit with unapologetic poignancy - is a pseudonym of Tom Wood, a musician-writer-actor who has co-starred in such films as The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, Under Siege and Ulee's Gold. Currently, Tom has pursued his most revered goal of creating projects from scratch and distributing them to a worldwide audience.  As Governor Tom, he brings songs of love and pain from a tale of music, money, family and politics. Singer-Songwriter Governor Tom's dynamic indie-folk, genre-bending style weaves truthiness and wit with unapologetic poignanc RELEASE OF "PUBLIC EYE" After the release of his naughty blues track “Architect of Love,” Governor Tom is back with “Public Eye,” the final track to be released as a single from his upcoming EP. Featuring two acoustic guitars, it introduces a grooving, pop/folk vibe. “That seems to be where my music is headed,” says Tom Wood, the creator of Governor Tom. “Public Eye” is an ode to the challenges of being a young starlet, “Any one of a tragic dozen,” Tom adds. “I believe it also reflects on what’s happening to many young girls’ mental health nowadays.” Tom is a multi-talented actor, writer, musician, and producer who co-starred in The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, Under Siege, and more. He took a sabbatical from auditioning to fulfill a commitment to himself to create original works. After countless screenplays and a few development deals, nothing remained realized until 2020 when, as Governor Tom, he released his first single “A Man with a Hat,” followed in 2021 by the liberating, upbeat “Living Wild,” which was particularly well-received in the U.K. Music was always there for Tom, constantly challenging him to build and grow—learning piano from his grandmother, neighborhood “concerts” singing covers, teaching himself guitar, and numerous professional musicals and revues. When he realized that modern technology would help him bring his original creations to life, Tom went all in. One TV project that Tom has developed features the character of Governor Tom, who’s the front man of a once- famous, one-hit-wonder glam-rock band. To promote the project, Tom dedicated himself to brushing up his guitar skills. When he returned to the instrument, something had changed. All his screenwriting had grown a new muscle in him. Instead of playing covers, Tom immediately began writing song after song without restraint. “There’s a level of honesty I’m searching for through Governor Tom—honesty in storytelling, communicating, and performing—that I believe will only be attained through performing my own creations. Music does not lie.” “Public Eye” is about invasiveness. This invasiveness affects all of us—“regular” citizens are watched and monitored through “personal” devices. “It’s a world of unimagined scrutiny” and “worthless, vindictive mockery” state the lyrics of “Public Eye.” “It’s a none-too-subtle metaphor for the cruelty inflicted upon young girls through social media, and elsewhere, to serve the voyeurism of a culturally malnourished public,” Tom says. Still, it makes for some beautiful music. “I’m so proud of this piece,” Tom concludes. “It’s the closest I’ve gotten so far to achieving the sound and style I’ve been working toward.” https://governortommusic.com/ Songs Featured: GOVERNOR TOM - A Man with a Hat GOVERNOR TOM - Living Wild GOVERNOR TOM - Architect of Love GOVERNOR TOM - Public Eye ___ https://truemediasolutions.ca/add-to-my-playlist

E48 - Spotify Debuts a New AI DJ, Right in Your Pocket - My Reaction Spotify Debuts a New AI DJ, Right in Your Pocket - Personalization is at the heart of what we do at Spotify—just think of fan-favorite playlists like Discover Weekly, or our annual Wrapped campaign. The beauty of these experiences is our ability to deliver the right piece of music for that exact moment in time, and maybe even connect you with your next favorite artist in the process. We’re building on that innovation by harnessing the power of AI in an entirely new way. And today, we’re excited to share that we’re taking our personalization to a whole new level with DJ.  Ready for a brand-new way to listen on Spotify and connect even more deeply with the artists you love? The DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you. This feature, first rolling out in beta, will deliver a curated lineup of music alongside commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a stunningly realistic voice.  It will sort through the latest music and look back at some of your old favorites—maybe even resurfacing that song you haven’t listened to for years. It will then review what you might enjoy and deliver a stream of songs picked just for you. And what’s more, it constantly refreshes the lineup based on your feedback.  If you’re not feeling the vibe, just tap the DJ button and it will switch it up. The more you listen and tell the DJ what you like (and don’t like!), the better its recommendations get. Think of it as the very best of Spotify’s personalization—but as an AI DJ in your pocket. To create the DJ we reimagined the way users listen on Spotify. The DJ knows you and your music taste so well that it will scan the latest releases we know you’ll like, or take you back to that nostalgic playlist you had on repeat last year. Never before has listening felt so completely personal to each and every user, thanks to the powerful combination of: Spotify’s personalization technology, which gives you a lineup of music recommendations based on what we know you like.  Generative AI through the use of OpenAI technology. We put this in the hands of our music editors to provide you with insightful facts about the music, artists, or genres you’re listening to. The expertise of our editors is something that’s really important to our philosophy at Spotify.  We have experts in genres who know music and culture inside and out. And no one knows the music scene better than they do. With this generative AI tooling, our editors are able to scale their innate knowledge in ways never before possible. EX47 - Chris Eveland - From Sparkly Guitars, Abba, Warrant, Canadian Musical Collaboration Stories CHRIS EVELAND is the band's lead guitarist of Gelatin Skelatin, SOS the Abba experience band. Chris' early musical memories are of his grandfather, piano tuner and talented pianist Denis C Sharpe, sitting on his lap hearing unforgettable melodies and arrangements, and feeling pure joy at the moment. Chris fell in love with Van Halen when he received his first Walkman for his birthday as a kid, which led him to his second love, playing the guitar. He has had a formidable career, playing with many bands, opening for names like Colin James, Alannah Myles, and Bare Naked Ladies, and touring and recording with Canadian Idol winner Aaron Walpole. Chris' deep passion for performance shows in his musicianship and ability to draw out the soul of the piece he is playing. EX46 - Switchfoot - Re-Released - Meant to Live and Dare You To Move - Our Version 2023 Switchfoot SWITCHFOOT has sold almost 10 million copies worldwide of their twelve studio albums (including their 2003 double-platinum breakthrough The Beautiful Letdown and 2009's Grammy Award-winning Hello Hurricane), racked up a string of Alternative radio hit singles, and performed sold-out tours with over 5 million concert tickets sold in over 40 countries around the world. Through their unique blend of emotionally intelligent and uplifting brand of alternative rock, SWITCHFOOT has earned a devoted and loyal global fan base. SWITCHFOOT has raised over $2 million dollars to aid kids in their community through their BRO-AM Foundation. SWITCHFOOT consists of Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Jerome Fontamillas (keys, guitar) and Chad Butler (drums). Meant to Live This is a song about finding fulfillment through God. The lyrics talk about imperfection of the world we live in, and why people were "Meant to live for so much more." This song is a highlight of an ongoing theme of Switchfoot, which is that the nihilism and entropy people feel in everyday life is due to a loss of identity and faith. The lyrics were written by Jon, he said in an interview, "I'm thinking of life maybe a little bit more lyrically than a computer programmer or someone like that. But the good songs I always feel like they have very little to do with me." The lyrics were inspired by the poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot. Both the poem and the song are about the superficial sense of the world and how everyone is so hollow, and that we "Were meant to live for so much more, but we lost ourselves." Dare You To Move The song was originally called "I Dare You to Move," and was included on Switchfoot's 2000 album Learning to Breathe. It was this version that appeared on the soundtrack to the film A Walk To Remember. The band decided to remix it with heavier electric guitars and stronger vocals for their album The Beautiful Letdown, this time released as "Dare You To Move." Jon Foreman said in CCM Magazine presents 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music: "I love to write songs. I've been at it since I could play the piano. It's one of my favorite ways to pass the time. Music helps me sort out who I am, so my songs usually end up being somewhat autobiographical. I've always felt the deepest connection with honest songs, so I try to write with sincerity." Foreman went on to say that this song, "is an attempt to honestly face the gap between who I am and who I want to be; between the way the world spins and the way it should be. I've heard that we only use a small part of our brain. Maybe our soul is the same way. And maybe we're half asleep most our lives, simply reacting to the stimulus our brain receives. Action, true action, is rare indeed."
