Description

In the 80s and 90s, a serial killer, pedophile, and kidnapper, Marc Dutroux, terrorized the country of Belgium. His unspeakable crimes and the incompetence or unwillingness of law enforcement agencies to stop him brought the entire country of Belgium to the brink of revolution. With hundreds of thousands taking to the streets in protest. Le Monstre will tell the story of these crimes and their aftermath, known as the Dutroux Affair, in an attempt to address unanswered questions, and to hopefully bring closure to one of the darkest chapters in Belgium’s history.

lost some confidence in this guy a few episodes back when he expressed fear and "distaste" for the concept of conspiracy. my confidence in him, and my respect for him, has since been recovered exponentially. but still it does not make sense. he has the bravery to seek out and confront a likely dangerous man, to bother that man in his very driveway and get him to a very pissed off state. yet the concept of "conspiracy" makes him pee his pants?

I, like the mother of one of the girls, also do not believe that the girls died in accordance with "the legal truth". I still think Dutroux's wife is a vile monster herself, but now I think she may have been persuaded to take all the blame for the deaths of the girls in that house, and that they may have died from other (horrific) causes than what is in the official story.

incompetence or conspiracy? no one is this "incompetent". why is this guy so afraid of the word "conspiracy"? dude, pick up a history book. read some court stuff once in awhile. "conspiracy to commit" (insert crime here) is a real concept in legal codes everywhere, a real thing that people engage in. I have a "distaste for conspiracy theories" too. Because corruption and evil are real, and conspiracies involving one or more human beings actually happen. And I don't like it. But I really really hate being gaslighted, being told that the only rational mode of thought about it is to be "skeptical", dismissive, and believe that conspiracies never happen.

I wonder if he's going to tiptoe around the obvious connections to the Belgian branch of Operation Gladio and the Brabant Killings.

It’s a shame this podcast is ruined by way too many ads, intros, recaps and previews of the following episode. Probably about 20mins of content when you take all that out. Not to mention the lack of English translation on a long period of French interviews. Don’t brother listening.
