The new season of "Echoes of History" features Ubisoft's new game: "Skull and Bones.
At the end of the 17th century, pirates scoured the warm seas of the Caribbean. When this corner of the world became too small for these restless bandits, one man looked towards the East... Thomas Tew, a former privateer, was one of the first pirates to set sail for the Indian Ocean. Lured by gold, spices, and precious stones transported in the holds of Mughal ships, Tew embarked on a new sailing route, the "Pirate Round". A route wrought with determination... and blood.

Gangsters of the Seas | EP 5 | Kanhoji Angre, the pirate admiral
The new season of "Echoes of History" features Ubisoft's new game: "Skull and Bones.
Is it possible to be a military man and outlaw at the same time? Well, it's all a matter of perspective. A strategic prodigy of the Maratha Empire in India, Kanhoji Angria was appointed admiral before he turned 30. Unbeatable at sea, he attacked the ships of East India Companies, which enriched Europe at the expense of local populations. Although he was an admiral, on the Old Continent, the name Kanhoji Angria is synonymous with pirate. The greatest Indian pirate in history to challenge former European colonial powers...

There are opportunistic pirates and those who have piracy in their blood. Mathurin Desmaretz belonged to the second category of sea scum. A simple buccaneer in his youth, he longed for freedom at sea. But life was not so simple. Forced to enlist several times, he looked at the horizon with envy. When he finally had the opportunity to become a pirate, Mathurin Desmaretz was ready. The high life awaited him. At least, that's what he thought...

Customer Reviews
An Excellent Podcast!
I grew up playing Assassins Creed but never took the time to appreciate the real world historical influence found within each game. Now that I am older and find history more interesting I am happy to have stumbled across this podcast. Ali and the others do an excellent job of narrating and I look forward to their future content!
Why is a Hollywood Actor with an LA Accent Covering 17th Century Pirates?
Okay there are good and bad seasons of this podcast. But the latest, to promote the upcoming Skull and Bones game, is rough. Historically, Paradiso/Ubisoft employ a history expert to help provide some credibility to the narrative.
In this season, we have Michelle Rodriguez. She is a mediocre actor at best and her attempts to create drama or speak about cultures and cities is embarrassing. Rodriguez has her place as an actor; a history podcast is not one of them.
Informational and engaging
As someone who has no previous knowledge about the game series, it was extremely informative to learn its deep and engaging exploration of historical events. My brother loves this game and he helped me draw connections between the podcast and our learning’s in class such as the main villain Qabiha was a non caliph who had substantial influence over the caliphate. The episodes are rich in detail, providing fresh perspective on Islamic history. It’s a must hear for everybody!
