    Erin Axelrod: Reimagining Retirement

What if we lived in a world where personal security didn't require vast individual savings?
Erin Axelrod (she/her) is a partner and worker-owner at LIFT Economy, where she accelerates ecological and justice-centered businesses. We talk about reimagining what retirement could mean and look like, including what Erin believes to be the 5 unsafe assumptions about retirement investing as it currently operates (here in the US) and some alternative ways we could measure wealth. We also discuss some of the fears that are currently holding us both back from living in full alignment with our values when it comes to saving, investing, and retirement.

Toi Smith: "If you have a value of liberation, where is your money going to be going?"

Marlee Grace - "I didn't do any taxes from 2015 until last year. Why? The money was there the whole time."

Why do we avoid doing the things we know we need to do with our money? How does debt make you feel? How can you learn to save money when you were raised to believe that money is bad? What happens when we out-earn the people around us?
Marlee Grace (they/them) is a dancer and writer who joins us today to talk so freakin honestly (with real numbers!) about debt, not paying taxes for many years, how much they earn, the guilt of out-earning their parents, the ramifications of growing up believing that rich people are bad, the fear of being judged for the amount they earn, and so much more.

Where does spirituality intersect with money? How might we approach manifestation if the idea of manifesting makes us roll our eyes? What does it mean to be in the flow of money? How can we be unapologetic about wanting a life of ease, freedom, luxury, and wealth?
L'Erin Alta (she/her) joins us to talk about all of this and more. She is one of my absolute favorite people to be in conversation with, and this episode is no exception!

My new favorite podcast!

Somehow I stumbled on this podcast after falling into a deep internet hole and I’m so grateful that I did! After listening to Season 1 I now know I was divinely led here. This felt like much needed therapy – deep soulful and honest conversations I so desperately needed to be apart of. Season 1 made me feel like I’m not alone in this world trying to navigate the nuances of relationships and self and family. Quite honestly, I’ve paid a lot of money and spent a lot of time trying to “figure out” my own thoughts around partnership and nothing has hit home as much as this podcast! I’m so excited to dive into Season 2 now because I’ve been craving real conversations around money in my personal life. The Pop Up Pod now feels like my companion, one that I look forward to listening to on my daily walks. I’m so grateful to Nicole and all the guests for being so open, vulnerable, and generous to share their thoughts and stories!

Love this pod!

What I love about this series is how open, honest and vulnerable the conversations are. They make you think and reflect on your own privilege and circumstances and how helped me reflect on how I can live closer to my values. Thank you Nicole for these beautiful and real conversations.

One of my favorite podcasts!

I love this podcast! I don’t know when I first discovered it, I think through She Explores Pod, but I’ve been recently re-hooked! I love the long format as I'm in the car a lot and it’s helpful to queue up a few of them and be set for the drive. Every episode has wisdom I can glean & I love how honest Nicole the host is as well as her guests. Nicole really has a gift for community building, asking good questions, & curating great conversation.
