I appreciated everything in this episode except the 12 Step idea. In practice/reality there are serious concerns around unhealthy dynamics especially when the particular fellowship is focused on an issue that requires more psychological insight than their simple narrative and largely an adherence to an in group identity. Most practicing will probably never even read Batesons essay on "Cybernetics of 'Self'" (which will likely be all but forgotten in time) and is just absorbed with their take.
I would have the protagonist(s) start a bit further into the future, where a break (instead of a bend) obviously happened, travel back in time to 2030ish, do all the preventive measures they can, only to fail and realize that had they started 5ish years earlier (i.e. now) they could've actually prevented the worst outcomes. That would leave me as a viewer with a feeling that what I do today matters and there is no time to waste!
This has become one of my top 5 episodes ever of this podcast. I sure hope Corey will come back as a guest once more one day.
Another great episode, Nate! I will say, as a vegan, that why is the choice between raising and killing cows and industrial monocultures for consumption?
Grateful for you, Nate Hagens! Sorely needed in a supremely isolating, energy-blind time
