When Tony Hathaway was arrested outside a Seattle bank in February 2014, it brought an end to one of the most prolific bank robbery streaks in American history. Hathaway robbed 30 banks in a single year, all within a 30-mile radius of his suburban home. But that’s not the most surprising part of this story. Before Hathaway was a masterful bank robber—a shape-shifting professional who confounded multiple police departments and the FBI—he was a top design engineer at Boeing, one of America’s most important companies. Hathaway traveled the world in business class, working on the 747, while hiding a gigantic secret: an OxyContin addiction that ultimately unraveled his life. Based on three years of conversations between Hathaway and journalist Josh Dean, Hooked is a different kind of crime story that takes listeners on an exceptional and very personal tour of America’s opioid epidemic.

Masterful storytelling
Josh Dean is by far my favorite podcaster and this was another amazing journey. Thank you to Tony and Connor for sharing your harrowing tale and I hope you both find the peace that you seek. Wishing you the best.
Amazing
Absolutely amazing podcast..I’ve been listening since the Seriel podcast days.
This pod has you at the end of your seat for every single episode.
I’m a former user too and besides the whole robbing 30 banks, this story hits home.
I can’t say enough good things about this podcast. I don’t want it to end. I’m going to research creater and hope to go down a rabbit hole of their work!!
BRAVO!! (Standing ovation) BRAVO!!
Good but dislike the pity party for addicts.
Absolutely loved this podcast- what I did not care for was the woe is me factor you put forth while Tony was in jail or he “had to be there, all alone” while he fought his case. Let’s be real- if he wasn’t white he would be doing life for all of those robberies and the podcast host and narrative failed to nail down the fact that Tony did this to himself. He made his bed and instead of responsibility for ruining his life, his sons and his entire families lives he is playing the sad card for being in solitary and being in jail. He is blaming all of his terrible life choices on big pharma and the disease of addiction. My brother was an addict for years and he eventually put himself through rehab and changed his life. I never heard him blaming drugs for the choices he made. I think the host was fooled by Tony’s charm and it’s disturbing. C’mon man.
