All good things must come to an end. And it's in that spirit that this episode of Podcast Theory serves as the sunset, the final curtain, the 9th inning, the grand exit, THE final installment of this podcast... For now, anyway 😉 Down the road, who knows...maybe it'll make sense to bring Podcast Theory back into the game. But for now, all attention shifts to Let's Blow This Up. Click the play button to discover why (and when). From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for being pa...
Thinking about starting a podcast? It's vital you get started on the right foot...one that allows you to build a solid foundation on which your show can grow successfully over time. In order to launch your show effectively, there are a number of key components you need to dial in so you don't run into the issues that prevent so many aspiring podcasters from getting beyond just a small handful episodes before throwing in the towel on their production. There's a famous saying that says "Faili...

As a wise man once said, "All good things must come to an end." And despite all the wisdom of said wise man...that's KIND OF what's happening here. Over the past few weeks, I've been pondering the future of this podcast and have made the decision to retire Podcast Theory. For good this time. But rest assured, what you experience each time you click play on an episode of Podcast Theory won't be vanishing completely. Confused yet? Don't worry, answers to every question exists w...
"There's always a million reasons not to do something." --- Jan Levenson, The Office That statement couldn't ring more true with podcasting. Because on the surface, it looks like doing a podcast is this overwhelming task with so many moving pieces, pushing it downstream and "worrying about it next week" or "next quarter" seems like the better way to fly. But guess what? Next quarter will present Next Quarter Problems, thus pushing the benefits of bringing a podcast into your marketing strat...
Have you ever found yourself in a position where you question whether you should publish an episode of your podcast because it doesn't meet your standards? If you haven't yet, chances are it's something you'll encounter at some point in your podcasting plight. In Part 5 of my "5 Things Your Podcast Doesn't Need" series, I'm diving deep into one of the most critical items you need to consider with your production: compromising your standards at the expense of your audience. In podcasting, t...
The "5 Things Your Podcast Doesn't Need" series rolls on and today, in Part 4, we are taking a slight detour away from the attention spans of your listeners and focusing on an item that many podcasts feature, but don't necessarily need. As podcasting has evolved, many things have changed and become available to this medium. One of them is the ease in which we can access podcast content on our devices. Back in the day, the term "PODcast" was literal because you uploaded "internet radio episo...
Want to know the most annoying word on a podcast? Then this episode of Podcast Theory is for you! This is Part 3 of 5 in my series "5 Things Your Podcast Doesn't Need" and today, I'm covering another item that keep your listener from getting to the heart of your content once they click play. If you listened to Parts 1 & 2 in this series, you discovered that attention spans are at an all-time low for adults (clocking in at a whopping 8.25 seconds). With that number in mind, getting you...
In Part 1 of this 5-part series, I shared some scary numbers regarding the attention span of adults in 2024 and why this is important for podcast creators to consider when laying out their content. I'm building upon those points in Part 2 today as I share another item your podcast episodes don't need and, ultimately, diminishes your listener's experience if you do it too much. This particular item can: - Put more work on your plate - Take more time than it's worth - Make things awkward for...
Since first becoming a thing over 20 years ago, podcasts have evolved in numerous ways. From methods of production to repurposing to actual content that makes up the shows you love, creators have embarked on a wild journey to connect you to their brands through this incredible, constantly-growing medium. As you put your content together, there are some items you may hear on other podcasts that you want to include...and, just as much, some items you don't. Over the course of the next five ep...
If you're a podcaster, I'm sure you'll agree with me: the majority of podcast guest pitches (or presentations) SUCK. In surround sound. With the volume turned all the way up. Leaning into podcast guesting is a great way to grow your brand, spread the word about your podcast, showcase expertise, and position yourself for increased visibility. But if you don't land the guest spot because your guest pitch isn't on point, you'll never experience any of those (plus many more) benefits. In thi...
I've been getting inundated with an ad on Facebook and Instagram lately and I'm sure the reason why is because I watch it in disgust every time it pops up. Basically, I'm telling the algorithm I want to watch straight up garbage. But that's a story for another day. This ad starts out "Starting a podcast is easy!" And, yes...I'll admit...STARTING a podcast IS easy. But what happens once you start is what truly tells the story of what you'll accomplish with your show. On this episode of ...
Depending on what website you land on or podcast you listen to, you're more than likely going to encounter some very ugly statistics about podcast launch success rates. The one I've grabbed hold of recently states that 90% of new podcasts DON'T GET BEYOND THREE EPISODES!!! This...is simply unacceptable. And it's time for a reality check. If you want to utilize the podcast medium for your business, you need to be strategic and set yourself up for long-term success. I have a pretty good id...

REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.16.24 It's 2024. And these days, it's hard to find podcasts recordings taking place without video being attached to the process. Undoubtedly, there are still podcasters leaning into audio only. But with virtual recording sessions via Streamyard, Riverside, etc. becoming the accepted standard in the podcast space, video makes the connection between collaborators stronger AND provides a dynamic piece of content that can be utilized in a number of ways. The vid...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.15.24 Did you know when you create a podcast episode, you give yourself access to a plethora of content that can be utilized throughout your digital brand presence? It's true! Not only do you have the ability to impact your audience clamoring for dynamic audio content, you can repurpose said content and utilize it for: ✅ Short and long-form videos ✅ Blog posts ✅ Social media posts ✅ Email newsletters ✅ Website content ✅ Webinars ✅ The framework of a book An...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.12.24 It's the return of Podcast Therapy! In Season 3, I started doing these sessions once a week and I'm happy to report this series is making a comeback. In today's installment, I'm going to talk about why it's important to show up to your podcast for all the right reasons. If you haven't heard my story, I got into podcasting out of spite. I had a troll confront me on Twitter who happened to be a podcaster and I wanted to prove I could do it better than h...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.10.24 With many things in life, the pursuit of perfection will derail us early in the game or, because perfection seems unattainable, prevents us from taking the initial steps to getting started. I've got news for you: perfection IS unattainable. And thinking you can produce a perfect podcast is a fool's errand. Today on Podcast Theory Live, I'm sharing my thoughts on perfection in the podcast space and why we need to do our part to make it go away. I'll al...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.9.24 I've been part of the podcasting world in one way, shape, or form since 2015 and, without question, I've seen a lot of things change, evolve, even go away completely. Yesterday, I was building out a new video series and reflecting on how far I've come over the past decade in regards to confidence, delivery, speaking ability, and sharing my message in a clear, concise fashion. It got me wondering: if I was coming into podcasting right now, for the very f...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.8.24 One of the biggest epidemics in the podcast space is podfade (when a show's creator stops releasing new content out of the blue with no announcement). A recent statistic that was shared in one of my communities is that a whopping 90% of podcasters don't get beyond their THIRD episode. That's a total shame. Especially when you consider the creators of these shows most likely had a ton of energy and a ton of passion for bringing their podcast to the worl...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.2.24 In podcasting, just like life, we often find ourselves focusing on too many things at once. When we do this, it spreads our bandwidth thin and we put less emphasis where it needs to be. These overwhelming feelings are often the driving force behind those ugly words we hate to hear: Depression. Burnout. Podfade. Failure. But let's take a moment to simplify things. What if we just focused on ONE thing...the MAIN thing...and let everything else fall...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 7.1.24 The first-ever Empowered Podcasting Conference went down June 28th thru June 30th with podcasters, creators, and livestreamers from around the world coming together in Charlotte, NC. The event was a true testament of community and the knowledge and wisdom that was shared throughout the weekend has the podcast world buzzing. I was part of the festivities, handling some emcee duties and moderating a panel discussion on how podcasting is becoming a better ...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.28.24 Ask any podcaster who's been at this for a while and, more than likely, they've experienced the story I'm telling today in some way, shape, or form. In today's installment of Podcast Theory Live, I'm wrapping up my 5-part series of wild and crazy experiences I've had in the podcast space and this one...it's a doozy. Well, maybe "doozy" is too strong a word... Or a word I shouldn't be using at all because, well, it's stupid... But I will say it's a fu...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.27.24 If you've ever been a guest on a podcast, you've more than likely been asked some questions that simply didn't jive with you. Perhaps they made you completely uncomfortable... Or maybe they were just plain out of bounds and the host didn't care. Or...perhaps the host asked you THE WORST question you can get when you're a guest on a podcast because it reveals they did NO preparation for your collaboration. In this installment of Podcast Theory Live, I...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.26.24 There's an unwritten rule in podcasting that stands above the rest: Listener Experience is EVERYTHING. If you aren't respecting the experience you provide for your listeners, chances are they won't be your listeners for long. You only have one chance to make a good impression in this space and, as more podcasts become readily available for people to consume, that belief is even more prevalent. In order to capture your listener's attention, you need t...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.25.24 Ever had a podcast episode go viral? Ever have that same episode piss off an entire country and start an all-out Twitter riot? OK, maybe my viral episode didn't piss off ALL of Australia, but a certain contingent was not happy and they used Twitter to let me know... All while the numbers behind my 5th EVER podcast recording shot through the roof! 😂 In this installment of Podcast Theory Live, it's Part 2 of 5 in my series of wild and crazy experiences...
Replay of Podcast Theory Live 6.24.24 A podcast guest can add tremendous value to your show. But if you don't set them up with the proper expectations for what you need from them...they may end up signing on to record with you while driving in rush hour traffic. Yep, this happened to me once...and it immediately made me realize my mistake. In this installment of Podcast Theory Live, I'm kicking off a 5-part series where I share some of the crazy stories that I've experienced in my near-d...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.14.24 Starting a podcast is not an easy task, regardless of what that one "gooroo" on Instagram might have told you in some 30-second Reel. Is it rewarding? Absolutely. But does it also require the right mindset, a sound strategy, and an unwavering commitment to not only START a podcast, but keep things going with consistency? ABSOLUTELY. In this episode of Podcast Theory Live, I'm breaking down my new Podcast Strategy VIP Day and sharing 10 reasons why you...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.13.24 Guess what? Not everyone needs your shit. Guess what else? Not everyone needs MY shit. As hard as it may be to accept, the whole world did not wake up this morning needing exactly what you have to offer. Nor does any podcaster need to bring you on their show as a guest because you explain to them how much success you've achieved. One of the biggest issues plaguing the digital world is connection and outreach. There are too many people "pitch slapping...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE 6.12.24 When you hear the term 'podcasting,' what comes to mind? For many, it's the act of creating audio content that's shared through apps like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart, and more. While that answer is indeed accurate, podcasts have evolved and offer so much more that often gets overlooked by creators AND those who leverage the medium to make guest appearances. In Episode 3 of Podcast Theory Live, I'm diving into how you can maximize the time you put ...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE FROM 6.11.24 I came into 2024 knowing I wanted to make livestreaming a part of my production process...I just wasn't sure where it would fit and how I should proceed. Where I landed was doing a weekly livestream called Let's Blow This Up Live, an extension of my new podcast, aptly named Let's Blow This Up. I immediately fell in love with the process of livestreaming and knew I needed more! Hence, Podcast Theory Live, the very livestream you're consuming as we...
REPLAY OF PODCAST THEORY LIVE FROM 6.10.24 It's no secret the face of "social" media has changed. Today, networks like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others have become ad and algorithm-driven, making it increasingly difficult to maintain social standards once championed and rewarded by these platforms. Oftentimes, it's hard to even tell if you're connecting with a real person or a bot dead set on scamming you. With podcasting, you always know you're connecting with a real person and, wh...

But, in case you can't be there as those episodes unfold, you can catch the replays right here on your favorite podcast listening and streaming app. In this Season ...

In this episode, you'll find: An apology from me for not releasing this episode much soonerAn explanation as to why I shifted course What's going to happen with this podcast (HINT: What's Old Is New Again...with a slight tweak)How content will be produced going forward through this podcastA brief intro to my new brand, Bombtrack Media Like what you heard on this podcast? Then you'll LOVE what...
The reasons why people love podcasts is pretty subjective. For starters, they could get attached to the host and tune in every episode just to hear what he or she has to say. Perhaps the podcast features valuable guests you don't want to miss. Maybe it's because every time they listen, they learn something new that can be implemented into their life on a personal or professional level. Hell, it could be because a podcast allows for an escape from their everyday life...even if for a few mi...
If you listened to Episode 012 of Solo Podcasting Simplified, you know my guest, Mickey Anderson, and I spent our entire conversation unpacking strategies for leveraging a solo podcast within your brand. And by far, one of the most important aspects we focused on was utilizing your website to feature your podcast content. Or, building a separate website 100% dedicated to your podcast production. Why is this so important? We discussed a variety of reasons: The SEO benefitsThe value podcast...
Having a podcast is great. The value it brings to your brand cannot be overlooked or ignored. The connection you build with current and potential clients is profound and each episode you publish provides further social proof that you're a true thought leader in your niche that people can learn from. You also have an amazing opportunity to connect with fellow like-minded professionals, thus amplifying your reach and expanding your network. A podcast serves as a consistent, reliable content ...
Consistency is vital to success in podcasting. The more consistent you are with content creation, actively communicating with listeners, and having compelling, captivating conversations with guests (when and if you feature guests), the more well-rounded podcaster you'll become. You'll also develop and hone skills that transfer to other aspects of your life, including but not limited to how you communicate with friends, colleagues, clients, and loved ones, and how you present your message on ...
Social media has woven itself into the fabric of society. At this point in time, is it even possible to imagine a world without it? The sheer connectivity networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc. have brought to our lives cannot be overlooked, overshadowed, or under-appreciated. I've been part of the social media vortex since the early 2000s since MySpace wasn't just a thing, it was the thing. Hell, if you go back into the late 90s (yes, I'm totally dating myself here), I was ...
How long should a podcast episode be? If you've been looking for a question that has a myriad of answers, this is the one. When you look at the number of podcasts actively producing content today, it's hard to pinpoint a specific timeframe because all of them are so different. Some podcasts clock in around five minutes. Others go 2-3 hours. According to The Social Shepard website, the average podcast length is 20-40 minutes. OK, so how do you make sense of this wide range of times and determi...
Why do so many podcasters fail? There are a number of factors that can contribute to a podcaster pulling the plug on their show in the very early stages. Many times, new podcasters enter the fray with unrealistic expectations about podcasting being easy and the whole world showing up to listen just because a new episode was published. In addition, new podcasters often get fixated on download metrics and believe this is the only way to gauge success for their show. Sometimes, podcasters ge...
The digital landscape you and I exist in today is filled with a plethora of answers and information as far as the eye can see. What's good about this is the fact that answers are always at our fingertips. What's bad is it can get incredibly difficult to filter through the minutia of content thrust upon us to find relevant information that resonates and brings game-changing wisdom into our lives. If you're a coach or consultant who's adding content to the mix in any capacity, it's incredibl...
If you're a coach or consultant, you spend a great deal of time providing assistance, guidance, and motivation to your audience. And that audience most likely consists of people in your inner circle - the ones who've taken the step towards investing monetarily in your knowledge and expertise - as well as your those who are part of your ecosystem, but haven't yet made any sort of financial investment in your guidance. Both serve as tremendous assets to your brand and speaking to each entity ...
What is a mastermind? If you've ever read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, you're fully aware how much stock the great author and thought leader puts in mastermind groups. In fact, his belief in these groups is so strong, he feels anyone who strays from the power built within said mastermind is destined to fail. As the legend states: “Maintain perfect harmony between yourself and every member of your mastermind group. If you fail to carry out this instruction to the letter, you may e...
It's inevitable that somewhere along the lines in your podcast journey, you're going to make some mistakes. None of us are immune to it and no one in this space has built anything with absolute perfection. And there's nothing wrong with that. Perfection is boring. Mistakes aren't a bad thing...as long as you learn and grow from them. But too often in the podcast space, those common mistakes are ones that lead to creators throwing in the towel far too soon. They let mistakes derail their...
How important is it to speak with confidence? Very. Confidence is everything! Think about it... When's the last time you bought something off someone who didn't have the confidence to fully explain what you were investing in? When's the last time you were persuaded by a public speaker who had no confidence in their ability to deliver their message? When's the last time you believed your kid when they told you with a shaky, unconfident voice they didn't eat the rest of the cookies when yo...
