Ep.126 Water Solutions with Lumbie Mlambo

Ep.126 Water Solutions with Lumbie Mlambo

Climate change is affecting everyone in one form or another. In Zambia we are experiencing a drought, which then affects hyrdo electric power stations. In turn, load shedding measures have been put in place very abruptly and with extreme measures. Clearly these challenges present us with an invitation to come up with new ways of living.
    Let's talk about it
    ***********************************
Zimbabwean Lumbie Mlambo, who received the UN Global Leadership Award, is a Global Goals Ambassador. She earned degrees from Texas Woman's University and Indiana University South Bend. Lumbie made the decision to carry on her orphaned father's legacy after being inspired by the humanitarian work he did in his neighborhood despite never having attended school. She established the nonprofit organization JB Dondolo, after her father, with the goal of facilitating marginalized people' access to vital natural resources. Lumbie speaks up about issues affecting women and girls around the world and offers her knowledge and expertise on solutions.

Ep.123 Schedule Joy with Relebone Rirhandzu Myambo

Do you low key not know how to be around someone with a mental illness? Like is it easier to pretend they don't exist so you do not have to deal with it. Truth is mental illness or mental disabilities are more common than we think also don't always present as the naked guy walking down the street caked in dirt. It can be your neighbour, a workmate, your lover. So you kinda need to learn more about it. That's exactly what we are doing today.
    Let's talk about it.
    ********************************
Relebone Rirhandzu eAfrika is a small-town girl getting lost in the big city. She is an essayist, writer, literacy advocate, and mental health advocate. Her first full-length debut, Broken Porcelain (Blackbird Books, 2022), is a collection of essays describing one Black woman’s mental illness experience with a universal sensitivity. In it Relebone offers an unbridled perspective on the darkness of living with a brain that is constantly trying to sabotage you. Her previous publishing credits include essays in the anthologies Living While Feminist (Kwela, 2020) and Mintiro Ya Vulavula: Arts, national identities and democracy in South Africa (MISTRA, 2021). She’s the host, content producer, and program coordinator of the mental health podcast The Nine Lives of Depression Survivors; an avid bookstagrammer who promotes Black writers and their work, and a plant mom who doesn’t believe that there is such a thing as having too many plants.

Smart and inspiring conversations

It’s great to listen to these honest and smart conversations that celebrate and explore what we can learn from our past, how to deal with the present and how to confront the future. The lens is an experience of an African woman but lessons are most certainly universal.
