In the early 1990s, as AIDS tightens its grip on major cities around the world, the relative safety of Montreal’s nightlife becomes a magnet for gay men. But when they start turning up dead in hotel rooms, beaten lifeless in city parks, and violently murdered in their own homes, the queer community has more to fear than the disease. While the city’s police force dithers over the presence of a serial killer, a group of queer activists starts making connections, and rises up to start a movement that would end up changing thousands of lives. Victim centered and incredibly informative
The history of gay Toronto mirrors America’s queer history and this podcast is such an important discussion of gay history. My Gen Z children don’t realize how recent the complete erasure of queerness was. How in my own young adulthood complete persecution existed. This podcast mostly ignores the killer and lovingly looks at the life and community of the victims.
Very informative
This podcast is professional and informative regarding the struggles of the trans community. I hope someday we can all respect one another and live together in peace.
Interesting material, confusing show
I really want to like this show. The topics that are covered are crucial. But it doesn’t feel cogent. Season 1 was set up like an investigation into the murders and then it wasn’t. Switching fro Aurelia to Cassandra felt really confusing in season 2. I think the host is still green and learning how to put together a narrative that has the broader culture context and I’m excited for his next project (whatever that is) but he’s not there yet.
