1.4.21 - Lessons from 2020, and onward!

Hi everyone, I recorded an episode last week but I hated doing it on my phone (now posted on youtube), so here's a better recap of 2020, what I've learned three months into the Write/Rec Lab, as well as some words of encouragement to any of you about to start on your creative journey. Let's kick ass this year! Much love, j Check out https://cruzfolio.com/the-writing-record/ to subscribe and review the podcast, I would greatly appreciate it!

12.14.20 - Question Workflow, Splitting the Week, Bond with the Fam

Hello friends, here's what I was reminded of this week: This week I challenged my workflow. It is hard to impose or question the way you do things, but being objective is half the battle. Break the week apart to see what you can get done on certain days. This may vary depending on your work schedule. Read to your partner. Have them read to you. Build something with your kids. 12.7.20 - Walk the Talk, Self-Champion, My New Poetry Book!

Hello all! Welcome to The Writing Record, a creative journal in podcast form where I share lessons I am learning along the way as a working class creative. I am here to write, record, and remind you that I believe in you and your work. This month has been tough, but I am walking away with some fundamental guidance to become more effective as a writer and creative collaborator. If you don't want to listen, here's the gist: Walking the talk is way harder than I thought, but doing it is pure joy, especially when you commit to helping others with their creative work. Champion yourself. Believe in what you have to offer and say. Don't be like me and half ass things for years. You are built to share your art with the world. Also support these creative endeavors and check out my debut poetry Collection, Flame to the Watering Hole! Make art, make haste. 11.6.20 - Expectations and setbacks

Came down with something early last week and it derailed my podcasting plans. Feeling a bit better, so here's this week's show a few days late! On this one I'm talking to myself about being accommodating to my awesome friends/collaborators, the perils of shifting expectations, and once again, project no budget setbacks. You know, the stuff working class creatives have to deal with. Much love, j https://cruzfolio.com/the-writing-record/

10.26.20 Pivot wisely, and improving organization

Hello all, If you hate listening, it's cool, here's the what I've learned this week: Projects may be postponed, things may take longer than you expect, it's a bummer sometimes. Instead of moping or getting in your head, just PIVOT. We don't have time to lollygag, just move on to the next project, or in this weekend's case, focus on family if you have the extra time. It's okay to refine your organization system. No matter what it is, you need a system in place to manage the various areas of your life. Don't over-complicate it. Keep the organizational approach lean, and keep assessing what works and what doesn't! Much love, j I am writing and collaborating here: https://idlewy.blog/the-writing-record/

10.19.20 - Letting family down, and how to learn from it

Hey all! I recorded this on Friday 10.16.20 because the schedule was a little wonky, but alas. I've had a week of deep thought and realignment. Have you ever felt like things were going swimmingly only to realize things are actually the opposite of that? This week has reminded me to never forget my North Star, my family, over work or art. Things are good, but I can do better. Be honest with yourself and own up to your shortcomings so that you can fix them. Mine is time management. I can't serve myself, my family, or my friends/collaborators this way and I have to work harder at it. Much love, j This is where we collaborate: https://idlewy.blog/the-writing-record/

10.12.20 - Days off are the key

Happy Monday folks! Here's a fresh rambling on the most recent barriers to creativity. Also, I don't want to do a video version of The Writing Record so I won't be sharing the video version on the blog. Sadly, I don't have time and it's not bringing anything to the YouTube channel. Here are my reminders to myself this week: Planning is important. Not getting distracted may be even more important. Weekends and days off are for rest. But they are also there for you to get shit done. Don't make a mistake like I did and let your days off fly by. Much love, j https://idlewy.blog/ https://www.instagram.com/writerec/

Experiment time! I recorded a video episode! You should probably watch it instead as I am not sure if the audio only version makes sense on its own, sorry! Trial and error happening at the moment! Check it out here: https://youtu.be/KuUzBIBc3zg A chaos weekend of creativity unfolded and this is the aftermath. This is how I plan to handle multiple projects. Looking forward to working with my friends on so much fun stuff!! Much love, j https://idlewy.blog/

9.20.20 - Vindication Episode: Children's Book Progress, Mini-Musical Almost Complete, Short Film Shot!

Hey friends! Please forgive the allergy voice, I am working on getting that taken care of. I just had such a great week and weekend that I couldn't wait to record my thoughts on it. I feel the wheels are in motion and I have been vindicated. Here's a few things I was reminded of while I worked on my collaborations this week: Step out of your own shadow. Get out of your head. Self-doubt is the creativity killer. Kill it with sun: Be vulnerable out in the open. You don't have to be a magnet to keep people engaged in your project. Let the project be the magnet. Be of service. Give to your collaborators. Facilitate their excellence. https://idlewy.blog/writerec/
