In 2022, it’s hard to define musicians by genre: people are blurring the boundaries more every day, and that’s how Anish likes it. He explains to Emerald, when asked to sum up his sound, “I’m really trying to not say house or disco or techno but it’s somewhere in there…” In fact, what matters most to Anish Kumar is the feelings these songs evoke: “I really quite like euphoric moments and moments that hit you in the gut”, he tells us in episode 3 “I try to make them the focal points in my tracks”.
Hosted by tastemaking DJ, presenter and broadcaster Emerald and in collaboration with all of us at tmrw and AWAL, the podcast introduces some of the most talented rising stars in the UK music scene. For our second episode, we meet Congee, the innovative London-based artist and producer. Self-named after the comforting Chinese dish, Congee explains in our new episode that his moniker celebrates both his heritage and also his upbringing: “I was thinking about my earliest memories from when I was younger: things that have stuck with me, that I still have a part of me now. Congee, a Chinese porridge, was always made for me when I was younger and my mum still makes it for me now. As a name, I like how it looks when you write it out in English, it’s satisfying.”
