S01E01 - Hyperspace with Dr Gaurav Khanna

S01E01 - Hyperspace with Dr Gaurav Khanna
This week on our debut episode I discuss Hyperspace with Dr Gaurav Khanna www.linkedin.com/in/gaurav-khanna a Professor in the Physics Department, and the Associate Director of the Center for Scientific Computing at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He works on a variety of challenging problems in theoretical and computational physics. Dr Gaurav introduces me to hyperspace and blackholes and as a non-scientist (although learning everyday) I learn very quickly that in theory travel through a blackhole won't necessarily be dangerous at all. In fact science indicates the 'Yes' if you have a large enough blackhole and if it is spinning fast enough then travel through would be safe and that the main issue is what is on the other side of the singularity? S1BonusE2 - Future Weapons with Skeeve Stevens
This week on our Bonus episode I discuss Future Weapons with Skeeve Stevens www.linkedin.com/in/skeeve/?originalSubdomain=au. Skeeve was the first Australian to be imprisoned for hacking. He is a Futurist, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, technology architect, consultant and visionary in number of areas including: Futurism, Network Architecture, Cloud Infrastructure, Advisor in Future Technology Crime and Critical Infrastructure Protection, Virtual & Augmented Reality, Internet of Things, NFC/RFID, Personal/Commercial and Security Robotics, Smart Cities, Consumer Behaviour and Psychology, Trend Analysis and Technology based Neuroscience aka Brainwear. The conversation with Skeeve is an intense one and not only due to the nature of weapons as a topic but also due to the reality that strikes like a slap in the face when we uncover just how easy it is to take everyday electronics, including toys and convert them into weaponry. The future is a reoccurring theme in my chat with Skeeve and although the dark shadow of children as weapons and super humans taking our jobs is high on our radar, Skeeve assures me micro-chipping, human upgrade and smart drugs will be an ordinary feature in the lives of everyday people in the very near future. S1BonusE1 - Space Law with Professor Steven Freeland

S1BonusE1 - Space Law with Professor Steven Freeland
This week on our first ever Bonus episode I discuss Space Law with Professor Steven Freeland. Steven Freeland https://www.linkedin.com/in/steven-freeland-52081b124/ is a Professor of International Law at the University of Western Sydney, Visiting Professor in International Law at the University of Copenhagen, and a Member of Faculty of the London Institute of Space Policy and Law. In my conversation with Steven, he emphasizes why space is so important from science, to commerce, to politics and why he believes its useful to have education around the use of space and the broader perspective of how human interference can impact on the use of space. A major concern of Stevens' is space debris, fueled largely by the rapidly increasing number of companies who say they want to go to space. He tells us that this would massively change the dynamics of space not only because of the potential of debris, but for a whole range of legal questions. Steven provides hypothetical examples of these issues and stresses the importance of exercising caution when exploring space. Further Reading and Resources: This episode was inspired by the book: Stranger in a strange land - Robert A. Heinlen and is the story of a boy born on Mars who makes his way back to earth as man only to find his legal entitlement to the whole planet of Mars. https://widdershinspodcast.com/season-one%3A-space-1 See more from Professor Steven Freeland at: www.linkedin.com/in/steven-freeland Follow Widdershins and please Rate and Review us in your favourite Podcast app so others can easily find Widdershins!
