Brady Novotny 3QS032

The 3 Questions for Brady Novotny Due to the current stay-at-home orders in Pennsylvania, we've all adapted our daily lives. I personally have resorted to adding video to my podcasts and teaching from my kitchen, How has the situation altered your career as a musician? If they were going to make a cartoon episode about Brady Novotny, the musician, which cartoon series would do it, and what character would play you? What was the first song you ever heard your wife sing, and if you want to tell the story with time and place, etc - asked by Utah from Noble Hops in Episode 31 The Song: Heart's Fire Inspired by the view of the red rocks. It has some interesting instrumentation combinations. So it starts off with bongos but the guitar is in drop tuning creating a heavy sound but against the bongo rhythm. About Brady Novotny Brady Novotny started playing the guitar at the age of 10. Determined to be a world class guitarist, he left his first guitar lesson with his instructor telling him basically to give it up now. Thus he was introduced to criticism and disappointment early in his endeavor. Nevertheless, Brady heard a guitar player that would motivate him to push all that aside and re-engerize his passion to continue; that guitar player was Randy Rhoads. Brady soon fell in love with classical and melodic guitar playing. Brady practiced restlessly learning everything from classical pieces, melodic and virtuosic solos from 80's guitar heroes, to jazz fusion. Brady loved the guitar, and truly, that has been his passion. He attended Berklee College of Music for a little time. At the age of 19, he was asked to teach summer guitar workshop at Duquesne University. As life often happens, however, Brady got burned out and went back to school and received his masters in Psychology. Yep, that's right -- Psychology. But the passion is back and stronger than ever, plus it never hurts to have some money! Brady set out to do an instrumental project that would have his listeners singing the haunting melodies while holding their attention by uniquely placed guitar virtuosity and dynamic rhythms creating a fusion of rock, flamenco, and jazz. His love for a variety of musical styles led him to study under many teachers in his life. Brady started out playing Classical guitar at the age of 10. Ever since then, Brady has had a strong affection for nylon string guitar sound. Ultimately, this led him to study Flamenco guitar. He immediately fell in love with the passion, virtuosity and rhythm of this style. The shred of the 80’s was one of his main influences and guilty pleasures, while Jazz was a big influence on Brady’s chordal choices and song color. Brady has a wide range of experience in the music business. His experience ranges from the Pittsburgh rock scene to national tours. He has worked as a Pittsburgh session guitarist, Worship leader, and guitarist at several mega churches. He has also taught guitar at clinics and universities. Noble Hops 3QS031

The 3 Questions for Utah Burgess You have been a part of the music scene as far back as I can remember both as an artist and a business owner. What do you believe the scene needs the most to allow more bands to succeed? If you were going to create a super group from your scene to manage, who would be in it and why? What makes your hops so noble? asked by Frank Vieira on episode 30 About the song, The Amish Ninja The Amish Ninja. It's about a local legend known as Eli the Amish Ninja, and is based on true events from a Memorial Day Weekend camping trip. About Noble Hops Band Location: AK Valley, PA USA Band Genre: Acoustic, Beer Founding member Utah Burgess, along with original member Ed Hughes, wasted no time hitting the local circuit playing an eclectic mix of cover songs to a steady growing fan base. After playing at an MC benefit one day that paid us in free Miller High Life however, this era of the band came to a sudden end. Our thirst for the Hops got the best of us that day. Soon after that Rob Keller joined the band. He had just started a band of his own called ‘The Shiners’ (who Utah was originally invited to be a part of and currently likes to refer to himself as the Pete Best of The Shiners) and the band was back in action. Rob’s influence immediately took the Hops in a different direction and also coincided with a period of song writing that Utah was going through. Coupled with Rob’s own original music (Grassy Award winning song “Every Once In A While” as well as a nomination for “Way Back Home”) and the new music Utah was writing the band was able to open up more opportunities for showcasing local original music. As the band’s popularity and fan base continued to grow it found itself in scheduling conflicts with Rob’s main priority, ‘The Shiners’. Weary of having to turn gig offers down and playing on the couch, Utah decided to approach Jenifer Lyn Baker (for a second time) about joining the band. The addition of JLyn (as she is known in the Hops Nation) provided even more diversity for the bands sound and style, as well as a healthy offering of JLyn’s own original music. Her soul mate John “Johnny Katt” Henricks (who along with JLyn played in “The Gravel Road Band” and “Junkman’s Widow”) also joined the band and further expanded the vocal reaches of the group. For a brief stint the band also included Zach Rovito who added an incredible style of playing as well as yet another voice to the mix of the Hops sound. Zach left the band to tour nationally with the band The Hawkeyes. The band has also worked occasionally with the lovely and talented singer/songwriter Jessi Boldy. Usually around the holidays she makes her appearance on the Shady Lady float in the Holiday Parade, jamming with Rob and Utah. The three also entered Meatlocker Recording studio in 2017 and recorded a couple of holiday classics, “Santa Baby”, and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”, both of which are available for download. In early 2018 the band entered The Leaning Studio of Greene and continues to record there now. Two singles have been released and are available for download. Our anthem, “Hop Head Stomp”, and a story about a Western PA legend, “The Amish Ninja”. Sadly the Hop Nation and the World at large lost Johnny Katt on June 6, 2019 to the horrible disease known as Scleroderma. Part of our goal moving forward will be to raise awareness and money towards this disease. He bravely took a chance on a stem cell transplant but other complications did not allow what looked like a very promising transplant to take place. We will always remember him and honor him. Just like it takes several special ingredients to make a good beer,

Reality Suite 3QS028

The 3 Questions for Reality Suite If you could erase an album from your mind so that you can hear it again for the very first time? Tell me about an embarrassing moment you've had on stage. If you could open for any internationally touring band, who would you pick and where would you start the tour at? What is something that your fans would be surprised to learn about you? The Song: Kiss the Ring This song addresses the struggle of interacting with fake friends and denying the pressure of bowing down to their expectations. Kiss the Ring was collaboratively written by the band in one session after the record label, Lions Pride Music requested that we include new material to gesh out the Awaken EP. About Reality Suite Band Location: North Haledon, NJ USA Band Genre: Rock “Reality Suite is a bit of a New Jersey super-group. Their fusion of modern and classic rock is a fairly compelling mix since they really don’t sound like any other indie band I can think of," - Jim Testa, contributing writer to Rolling Stone magazine and founder of Jersey Beat fanzine. Rock is dead. But hard work isn't. After 10 years of evolving as melodic rock savants and releasing dozens of independent singles and EPs, Reality Suite has been determined to awaken the masses and demonstrate that rock is NOT dead. "Reality Suite has become one of my favorite bands for numerous reasons. They are a kick-ass in your face rock band with a dynamic front woman," declares East Coast renowned photographer, Jec Crespi. WRAT 95.9FM radio DJ, Tom Hanley stated in his blog, "The female-fronted Hard Rock act puts out a modern Arena Rock sound comprised of killer vocals, complex instrumentals and meaningful lyrics." After the 2018 self-released "Awaken" EP exceeded fan expectations and garnered the attention of several European record labels, Danish based Lions Pride Music won the partnership with Reality Suite resulting in 2019's expanded album "Awaken (Deluxe.)" This frst full-length album not being entirely band-produced incorporates the production skills of hard rock producer/engineer Mike Ferretti (Sevendust, Saliva, Brand of Julez) and pop/R&B producer Earl Cohen (Lady Gaga, Jessica Simpson, Pink.) "Awaken (Deluxe)" was released worldwide on June 28th digitally and on CD. Formed in 2009 in North Haledon, New Jersey by childhood friends Brian King (drums,) Antonio Valenti (bass,) and Joe Padula (guitars) – their ambitions have been to produce heavy, melodic rock. After several male and female vocalists, Kimmii Heart had joined in 2013 establishing the defnitive line-up known today worldwide. In September of 2015, the self-produced debut full length ”Skinn” was released. A unique sound to global rock fans, it was secretly a greatest hits album capitalizing on Reality Suite’s most popular songs from previous EPs. "Skinn boasts a number of standout tracks, including hook-laden frst single, Die Dreaming with the equally infectious Save My Life and Playing with Fire," printed the Record/Herald News reporter, Brian Aberback. The song Save My Life was featured as the Song of the Week in Steppin' Out, a NJ music publication while MPire Magazine declared, “Skinn is a damned near perfect piece of rock, one that incorporates the old and new in the right balance." After an aggressive band managed social media campaign, Reality Suite has developed over 27,000 followers worldwide. There are pleas from male and female fans of all ages requesting the New Jersey based band to perform in their cities and countries. Dynasty Xero

The 3 Questions for Dynasty Xero If they made a movie about Dynasty Xero, who would play you? If you could erase your favorite album from your memory so that you could hear it again for the first time, which album would you choose? How did you come up with your band name? asked by Salina Solomon in episode 026. The Song: Falling The song was written during the summer of 2019 and is an upbeat rock song, also borrowing elements from pop-punk. It was the first song that we released to Spotify (Nov. 15, 2019). About Dynasty Xero Band Location: Steubenville, OH Band Genre: Rock In a decade when rock experienced limited commercial success, Dynasty Xero exploded onto the stage with their high-energy rock 'n' roll. Their sound is built from the dueling guitar riffs of Michael Schisla and James Lamansky, Keith Montenegro’s punk-inspired basslines, and Tim Rankin’s thundering drums. They were raised on their parents’ record collections and MTV videos that had re-surfaced through YouTube and Myspace. But they were also quick to embrace the music of the 21st Century, and with the rise of EDM and continued success of pop-punk, they found new sonic territory to assimilate into their rock sound. Dynasty Xero formed when lead guitarist Michael Schisla met bassist Keith Montenegro at Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2018. Shortly into their friendship, Michael offered to teach Keith several advanced guitar exercises that translated well to bass. Their first lesson quickly turned into a jam, and within a week the two were determined to start a band. Shortly after, they filled out their lineup with Tim Rankin on drums, and James Lamansky as a second guitarist, all while writing songs and playing shows. They became a staple of Franciscan University’s music scene, often being booked to perform or open for an established artist at school events. Today, Dynasty Xero is better than they have ever been. Wherever they play, they play to screaming, loyal fans and curious passersby who always leave having enjoyed themselves. But the best they’ve ever been isn’t enough. On November 15, 2019, Dynasty Xero released their first single, "Falling" to Spotify and other platforms, with promises of more songs soon to come. Salina Solomon

Photo Credit: Kira Hooks Salina Solomon tries her hand at 3 Questions & a Song on episode 026! How has your time spent in Long Island, London, and Nashville affected your songwriting? If you could join any musician on stage to perform, who would you want to join and what song would you do? What is your favorite time signature to play in? Asked by Dwayne of Big Ugly on Episode 025. The Song: Let Go Let go is a song that I wrote while literally staring at someone after an open mic. I noticed that 2 of my guy friends were fighting over me, and it was kind of weird. It is about allowing things happen the way they are supposed to and not getting caught up in moments. A lot of the time I get caught up emotional issues and emotional what ifs. The Bio Band Location: Nashville, TN Band Genre: Indie Pop, Pop Rock, Singer/Songwriter With a Grammy consideration for Best Blues Album under her belt for “Don’t Lead Me On” on Travis Bowlin’s “Secundus”, opening for artists like Sublime at a 5,000 person venue, and more than 5,000 song credits to her name, Salina Solomon has established herself as a skillful songwriter and an entertaining storyteller. Her latest release, five-song EP 20/20 is a pop-laced flight of euphoria, bluntness and heartbreak, with a sound that can be described as Florence and the Machine meets Lady Gaga. The project’s broad style spectrum strongly highlights Salina’s range and various influences, and offers listeners an emotional experience that will make them want to jump around and dance, then fall to their knees and cry. On stage, Salina ignites the crowd with her energetic and quirky personality, while showcasing her powerhouse vocals and impressive guitar skills. Her talent and growing fanbase are taking her to venues across the country, where she performs to sold-out crowds. Since early 2015, she has played more than one hundred shows across the country, at locations ranging from the waterfronts of Texas to New York City's Carnegie Hall, and even Nashville’s famous Listening Room. Off stage, Salina lends her time to charities that support education, military veterans, and the community at large. Salina recently partnered with Magnet Schools of America to create high school scholarship funds in the memory of her grandmother. She was able to give (3) scholarships in April 2019. Currently, Salina is hosting a House Concert series called “What Is?!?!”, where she invites the local community to her home on a quarterly basis that focuses on a topic of interest through discussion and music. Matt Westin 3QS024

Matt Westin takes on 3 Questions & a Song on episode 024! What is it about country music that drew you away from engineering and to the stage? If you could go back in time and follow a musician around for 1 year and not change history, who would you follow and what would you like to learn from them? What instrument do you use to write with.. and do you write the music or the lyrics first asked by Richard Leko of Broomfiller on episode 023 The Song: Hey Bro Hey bro is a rockin country song that celebrates the bond between brothers from another mother, as they say. This song means more to me now then it did originally, because my cousin was almost killed in a terrible accident and he barely survived. When I saw his reaction to this song, it really hit me hard on how important it is to be there for each other and have each other's backs through thick and thin. This song and the lyric video on YouTube celebrate this bond, whether it's between friends, or soldiers, or 1st responders, or whatever it may be. The Band Band Location: Pittsburgh, PA Band Genre: Country After leaving a career in engineering to follow my passions, I ultimately decided to pursue music professionally to honor my father's memory who passed away in 2016. He loved my singing and encouraged me to continue to pursue it. I dedicated my debut album Legacy to him. Music was a huge part of my healing process and has now become a new purpose for me in my life.
