This is the story of Sunny Stroeer's Iditarod. What she experienced in the wilds of Alaska as she became the first woman ever to ski the 1,000 miles from Anchorage to Nome!!
Chelsea Jackson is an avid hiker and trail runner who works for the New Hampshire State Parks on the summit of Mt. Washington! Mt. Washington is notorious for having the "world's worst weather" and consistently has days where windspeed is over 100 mph. The summers can have major temperature swings when storms blow in (or as Chelsea calls the storms..."Impending Doom") and the winters can be absolutely brutal with extremely low temperatures on top of crazy powerful winds. Chelsea has a very unique experience of living and working on the summit through the busy summer season but also the isolated winter. In this episode we hear all about how she made a major life transition and took a major leap to pursue this job, what the day to day life of living in extreme weather is like, and how trail running led her to this adventure! I hope you enjoy!! MORE FROM CHELSEA: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chelseap.jackson/

"We are meant to seek, engage, be filled up with wisdom from sources far more attuned to the truth than ourselves" - Paul Scheuring, The Far Shore Paul Scheuring is an author, a filmmaker, a show runner, and a screenwriter. More importantly, Paul is my friend, a mentor, a smart-guy-I-talk-to-in-order-to-make-sense-of-the-world, a fellow adventurer, a dude who likes to surf, a father, and someone who encourages folks to chase their dreams! In this episode we dive into a deep discussion about creativity and the process of how one expresses themselves. We base this chat around his novel "The Far Shore", a deeply meaningful novel Paul wrote a few years back. I've always been a fan of Paul as a person but now that I've read a couple things he has written I'm a HUGE fan of Paul as a writer!! I HIGHLY recommend this book!! "Some fundamental thing drives us, and we cannot catch a direct glimpse of it. But it must be an unease, for if it was anything otherwise, a calmness, a contentment, we would not search so furiously as a species for an answer to it." This week we are chatting with adventurer, gym teacher, and a man who chases audacious goals Jason Hardrath!! Jason recently led an expedition to attempt an Infinity Loop on South America's tallest volcano Ojos del Salado in Chile. Though him and his team were not able to complete the infinity loop (summiting twice and running completely around the base of it) every single one of them summited the 22,000 foot peak. In this episode we talk about what lessons we can learn through a failed attempt, how we learn more from the journey than the destination, and what he plans on doing differently next time! Jason also shares stories from his summer taking on the Rocky Mountain Grand Slam - summiting all the 14ers in Colorado, 13ers in Wyoming, and 12ers in Montana. Sounds incredible and came down to the wire!! Hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did!! I always learn a lot from Jason every time he is on the show!
This week we are chatting with adventurer Valerie Gagne about her very first solo expedition circumnavigating the Eye of Quebec!! A few weeks ago Val skied 180kms over 6 days around the frozen Eye in the middle of winter. She battled slushy ice, isolation and extremely cold weather before ultimately finishing the challenge! In this episode we talk about the reasons why Val wanted to take this on, the differences between a solo expedition and one with partners, and the obstacles she faced over these six days and how she overcame them. This is an awesome conversation!! I hope you enjoy! This week we are chatting with former football D-Lineman and current endurance athlete Derek Snakenburg!! Derek and I have a lot in common- both from Iowa, both ultra runners, both busy dads in our 30s and both of us played D-Line on the football team for Wartburg College (I only stayed one year..if I would have stayed longer Derek would have been my teammate!). So it was an absolute joy to be able to sit down and chat with him! In this episode he shares the journey that led him to the start line of the Mines of Spain 100 in Dubuque, Iowa for his very first 100 miler! We talk about the "perfect day", how we spend our energy, filling the sponge, and much more!! Hope you all enjoy! MORE FROM DEREK: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dereksnakenberg/

In this episode Ray digs deep on some bigger ideas and concepts from his years of adventure, including courage, curiosity and contentment. We also chat a bit about his passion for putting on expeditions (like the Kapik1 expedition to the Atacama I was lucky enough to join last November) and reflect on what big adventures he is aiming his energy towards next. What does it take to run the entire length of Africa South to North? Russ Cook is taking on an endeavor that has been accomplished by no person in history. It’s not only the most epic challenge anyone is taking on right now but “Project Africa” is also hands down, easily the best series on YouTube!! (Seriously, if you’re not watching it, start immediately!!) The “Hardest Geezer” has spent over 270 days running over nearly 12,000 kilometers through 13 countries and the adventure has been completely breathtaking so far! This week I was lucky enough to sit down and chat with Jarred Karp, one of the filmmakers and crew members supporting Russ as he grinds out the kilometers day after day, month after month. In this episode, Jarred and I talk about his journey into filmmaking, how he got involved with Project Africa, and the ups and downs of the journey so far! This is a conversation about creativity, the obstacles faced in adventure and filmmaking, being audacious enough to cross the entire continent of Africa, and the athlete brave enough to take it on and the filmmakers telling his story. This week we are chatting with ultra runner and author of "Come What May, I Want To Run" Miriam Diaz Gilbert!!
In this episode we talk with adventurer Cyril Derreumaux about what it takes to cross the Pacific Ocean on a Kayak!! Cyril became the 2nd person ever to cross the Pacific Ocean on a solo kayak from California to Hawaii. He did this through the sheer power of perseverance and human spirit. In this episode we talk about what went into this endeavor. How can we use the cycle of failure (his first attempt did not go well)? How can we better handle fear when faced with truly terrifying situations like storms in the middle of nowhere with no help to be found? What strategies do people use to face self doubt? This is an absolute wonderful episode and truly the best way to start 2024!! Cannot wait to hear more from Cyril in the future!!! What is it like to take on the 7 Summits? Could you withstand the monotony of biking across the United States twice? What skills would you need to survive a month in the wilderness? This week we are chatting with adventurer Heather Werner all about her BIG EXPERIENCES!! Heather has been on a quest to finish the 7 summits. At this point she is so close with only Everest remaining! (Although she gave the world record holding highest haircut at Camp 3, she pulled out of her summit attempt due to liquid in her lungs.) This week we are chatting with Ultrarunner Cody Taylor!! I had the absolute joy of getting to know Cody through running and camping across the Atacama desert a few weeks ago. Through his 20s Cody spent his time touring across the US and Canada drumming in rock shows and now has used that same passion and stoke level to take on ultra running! In this episode, we chat all about his time drumming in bands and how he uses some of that same "drummer energy" to pursue long endurance challenges. Cody also explains why he started "New Normal" and how him and his wife are on a mission to help people transform their lives for the better. This is an awesome episode!! I hope you all enjoy! This is my first comment to any podcast and I am a binge podcast listener. Listening to an average of one podcast a day. I have to let you two know... This was by far the most touching, moving, tear piling podcast I've listened to. Chris and Phil thank you for being open and so loving to anyone willing to listen. The strength you have to share brings us, people, closer and closer as a community in a world filled with deep deep pain, loss, breaking points, and yet tremendous beauty. Your strength is above and beyond, as meraculous a night filled shooting stars. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, for this podcast! In perfect time for me, as I lost a beautiful angel earlier today. We are not alone in our times of pain, confusion, anger, love, sorrow, and growth. You are amazing people and somehow I feel like you are here for me today by listening to your story.
